Hannes, if your permalinks do not have forward slash at the end, every time the page is requested, your web server has to do additional look ups whether it has to further navigate down in the directory structure or not. Appending this slash immediately tells the web server to skip all further look ups and immediately serve the page to the visitor.

Now for a single page the time difference is very less. But if your site is getting decent traffic, you can imagine thousands of additional look ups saved reducing the load on your web server speeding up the things.

Radith,if it's the load time of your home page, then its reasonably acceptable. Anything beyond 30 seconds will need your attention.

An individual post page containing multiple images can have a load time of around 15 seconds.

@Radith - There's is huge difference between what iwebtools and pingdom do. iwebtools simply calculate the raw html code download time from the web server. While pingdom simulates web page rendering, and calculate the time involved in widgets download, scripts execution, download time of external scripts and images. This gives the true picture of page download time.

@Kai - Exactly, that's what each one of us may do when a page takes too much time to load. Sometimes it may be a broken link or non-existent/poorly coded external script that may introduce latency in the process. Run all your external scripts on a test blog before applying them to the main blog.

I never knew that simply changing the html codes around can have a huge impact on page load time. When I click on links that are too slow, I click out of it immediately, and I am sure this is how others feel if my site is too slow.

i found a 'slight' difference between pingdom and iwebtools in the matter of how those service measure my blog loading time..

in pingdom it said : 24.7 seconds
while in iwebtools : 0.42 seconds

i actually loved websiteoptimization ( first read it on amanda's post ) but somehow lately i can't use this service, it loads somehow extemely slow than the first time i tried it.

fyi : my internet speed is 384 Kbps and my blog is thumbshit.blogspot.com ( still on progress )
