Apart from posting quality content, you must comment on blogs in similar niche and should be an active member of relevant forums. Social media certainly helps in growing the traffic. but it has to be supplemented with equally good content that provide value to your readers.

Correct, SEO is certainly the most disliked niche among Digg community. Digg also requires lot of time. All power users on Digg are active almost full-time for their Digging activities.

Like timing, no self-submission is also applicable on almost every bookmarking activity. Long back, I was also submitting my own content. Fortunately, I found a similar post and changed the way I used to bookmark content. Now I rarely stumble or Digg my own content.

Feels like a wake up call.
I haven't been active in Digg, and thanks for pointing out that self-submitting articles could bring as much damages as in SU. Some suicidal acts I was doing..phew..

I agree, besides good submissions, it also requires Diggers to be active and network with the rest. Didn't get much traffic from Digg because of my inconsistency and as a passive Digger. So, better work harder. ^^
